Passage: John 19:1-18

Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been
given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”

INTRO: How do you explain oppression?

POWER DYNAMICS
What is power without character or authority without humility?

A TRULY VICIOUS CYCLE
How are you unwilling to let go of power?

AN UNEXPECTED SOLUTION
Why does it matter that Jesus is the Passover Lamb, sacrificed for us?

YOU CAN PRAY WITH US …

  1. Worship the LORD, our Redeemer – the only One who has the power and the love to set us free from all that is wrong with us. Praise Him that when we have sought to un-seat Him that He loved us enough to be un-seated in Christ so that we could be seated at His table as His family!
  2. How have you lived blind to your own mistreatment of others? Confess your pride and your bondage to Jesus, asking Him to forgive you and change your heart to love others truly as He has loved you.
  3. Give thanks to Jesus for the miracle of His sacrificial love vs. our selfishness and destructiveness! Thank Him for yielding His privileges and comforts willingly to trade places with us, bearing our costs and freely sharing His blessings.
  4. Who do you know that is bullied or dominated by someone else? And who do you know that is oppressive?  Pray for them, asking the Lord to work in their hearts to set them free from their core problems of slavery to sin and death.
  5. Ask the Holy Spirit to bear in you His fruit of love and goodness. Pray that He would work into your heart a sense of the freedom Jesus truly achieved for you so that you could work joyfully to see others set free in Christ.

The Facilitator is a study tool designed to help you engage with the weekly sermon through the five elements we incorporate in our Community Groups; Get Acquainted & Sharing, Sermon Study, Mission, Worship and Prayer. This tool will be made available Monday morning to give us the opportunity to look back at what we heard on Sunday.
