Sealed with The Holy Spirit

February 6, 2022 Speaker: Tim Rice Series: Ephesians

Passage: Ephesians 1:11-14

Memory Verse for the Week: Ephesians 1:13-14 (ESV)

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Intro: Why does it matter if something (or someone) is sealed?

WHY DO GUARANTEES MATTER?
What is there about us that craves assurances?

BROKEN PROMISES & UNCERTAINTIES
What is life like when it’s uncertain?

GOD’S PERSONAL SEAL
How can we be assured?

YOU CAN PRAY WITH US ...

1. Worship the LORD that He is sure, sovereign and utterly in control – and that He alone can guarantee anything. Praise Him, Father, Son and Holy Spirit that He secures us.

2. How have you lived with insecurities or unbelief, especially where you have tied your hopes to created things or people? Confess your participation in the chaos, asking Jesus to forgive you and heal you.

3. Give thanks to Jesus for His work to finish our atonement (by His death) and secure our eternity (by His resurrection). Thank Him for how He has made the gift of His indwelling Spirit possible by cleansing us.

4. Who do you know that lives without any assurance from God or toward Him? Ask the Lord to open their eyes to His Grace in Jesus, and that He would use you to encourage them in repentance and faith.

5. Ask the Spirit to bear His fruit of love and peace in you. Pray that He would help you turn from vain hopes (in created things or people) and that He would secure you as your eternal Seal and Guarantee.
