Post-election perspective
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—he remains faithful forever.” Psalm 146:3-6
“If with Christ you died to the elemental spirits of the world, why, as if you were still alive in the world, do you submit to [their promises or requirements]?” Colossians 2:20
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” Colossians 3:1-3
“Remember that you were at [one] time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world… But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace… For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:12-14, 18-22
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” Ephesians 1:16-21
We enjoy remarkable freedom as Americans, are privileged to vote as we want, and are basically assured that we will not be punished for how we do so.
Many today are rejoicing over what is to them a victory. Almost as many are disappointed or even grieved over what is to them a bitter loss.
If your faith is in Jesus, then have a third consideration. We have both a higher calling and victory and a burden for a deeper sense of yearning for what has not yet been enacted upon this earth. We are in Christ already. Therefore, we are participants in a Victory that no competition in this world can rival! Yet, He has not yet put down evil in its final form to transform all losses and hurts into something more glorious and unimaginably beautiful — the fullness of His redeeming work has not yet been consummated and for now, selfishness, unbelief, and raw evil are still rampaging their way across our entire world.
Jesus secures for us something that no political leader ever could. So, in perspective post-election, give thanks to the Lord for the privilege of being able to vote, but worship and rejoice with a heavenly joy that what we really need, He has already guaranteed.
