One voice out of millions

One of the most transformative aspects of the advent of the smartphone is to exponentially increase the number of voices that you can now access. I’ve spoken to this before that if 100 years ago, the typical American could literally hear maybe a few hundred voices in their lifetime. The largest expansion of their circle came with the advent of radio! With that technological breakthrough, you could listen nightly to stories, the news, and maybe an occasional sports broadcast. Still, the voices that would shape your life, beliefs, dreams and possibly your nightmares were limited to the humans with whom you could physically interact. Plus, the voices on the radio.

50 years ago, that circle had expanded radically with now increased mobility plus television. Radio was profoundly revolutionized as well with both AM and FM broadcasts, plus innumerable stations now vying for listeners. And who can remember fighting “over the dial” in the car??

But now, you have in your pocket access to literally hundreds of thousands, if not even millions, of voices. Knowing what was already available on radio and TV, what is now constantly “there” for you on podcasts, online broadcasts, videos, and millions of posts on myriad social media platforms are now countless voices.

Who can now speak into your life, beliefs, dreams or possibly your now fevered nightmares?

You now have to be more discerning than any generation that has ever occupied the planet. And every parent, spouse, friend, and spiritual leader is now humbled by how meek and small our voices are by comparison.

Still, we believe in what we believe! We stand with generations that have sustained the faith for over two millennia since Christ Jesus ascended into heaven until He splits the sky to come back for His people. Until then, we are responsible to learn, grow and teach others. 2 Timothy 2:2 says plainly: “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”

Starting Sunday, February 9th through March 16th, we will be offering Ed Hour classes. While every ministry in Trinity seeks to faithfully convey the Gospel, help believers learn and grow, and especially to model faithful living, from time to time we have the opportunity to offer targeted classes. During this cycle, we will offer two classes. One will be on learning how to share your faith, and the other will be on parenting. That one, a shorter seminar, will only be two weeks long, but we will offer it three times throughout the span of Ed Hour to help ensure that more parents can make it. If you haven’t noticed, there is a lot of parenting going on at Trinity… and so we want to be supportive.

We know that we are only one voice. But we stand on the shoulders of faithful saints throughout the ages, and what we have gained from them, we freely share with you.

Please do your best to attend one of these classes, and what you gain, consider also who is coming behind you that is also beset and overwhelmed by all the voices. Be humble yet faithful, and offer to them what you have found to be faithful and true. And we can all trust God, by His almighty Spirit, to make His Word come alive to those who humbly look to Him.

Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35)
